The recent release of Blackberry Media Sync hasn’t been long awaited, however has made Blackberry music users lives a little more convenient. Up until now, getting music on to your Blackberry has consisted of dragging music to your memory card or your phone memory. Furthermore listening to music on your phone hasn’t been a huge priority for RIM in the past, but with the growing popularity of Blackberries (about 14 million nowadays) they aren’t just for business. So, those receptive little buggers at RIM created Blackberry Media Sync as a stand alone program or included in the new Blackberry Desktop Manger 4.6.
The new software lets you sync up your iTunes playlists or random tracks to the media player on your phone. This makes it convenient for Blackberry users to integrate their iTunes libraries and mixes to their phones. So now to the pros and cons…
Pros
Media Sync allows for easy upload of iTunes playlists. It also allows you to control the percentage of your memory you want left free of music. This feature is especially useful if you choose the option that automatically uploads random tracks from your music library to fill your free space. Media Sync allows all audio files including podcasts that play on iTunes except for DRM files.
Cons
The main flaw with this software is that it does not upload DRM(Digital rights management), aka protected files, to your phone. This is Apple’s fault for not sharing with the rest of the world, I guess Jobs never recovered from the whole Windows thing. Another thing that I don’t like about this program is that you don’t have the option of picking individual songs and uploading them. This may sound dumb since not many people probably even care to do things this way however, I like having the option and not having to make a new playlist on iTunes every time I want new music on my Blackberry.
In conclusion, I would recommend this program if you listen to any music on your phone or if you just use them for ring tones. Now all of us that don’t want inferior smart phones such as the iPhones for easy music uploads finally have a solution! Next up is flash … Bold(9000 series) here we come.
