New Poynt for Bold Review

Recently Multiplied Media released a beta version of Poynt for just the Blackberry Bold.  For those of you who are not familiar with Poynt, it is an application that allows you to search for movie theaters, times, search businesses via SuperPages.com, and get directions. Poynt has a very simple, eye pleasing layout and is very easy to navigate through.  It always keeps your search location at the top so you can always see it which is very useful, seeing as I always forget things.  Now head to the review.

Now for the new features:

You are now able to

-search movies

-watch movie trailers

-purchase movie tickets from your phone.

I have been playing around with this program for a few days now and it is very cool and very useful.  The movie trailers aren’t very clear, but that is no fault of my Bold or Poynt.  Searching for movie times is a breeze and there are many search options such as: Movies near me, theaters near me, top 10 movies, movie genres, movie titles, and the theater name search.  This is a great feature because you don’t always know the movie title you are searching for or the theater name, but if you do, you are able to search directly for it.  The movie ticket purchase feature is great if your local theaters use MovieTickets.com.  However, when all theaters begin to offer online ticket purchase, this will be great especially if you are on your way to the movie and don’t want to wait on line.  This section also gives you the option to read the movie synopsis and read reviews of the movie which now covers basically all features you would need to make a conscious informed decision about seeing a movie.

Next feature is the traveling directions.  This feature is a little lacking just because it uses Blackberry Maps and I am not a huge fan of Blackberry Maps, but it is growing on me, slightly.  When you are using this feature it takes you out of point and directly to BB Maps.  It is pretty basic, so you can get your GPS location and get directions from point to point, or you can type in an address and go from there.  I must warn you, when you acquire your GPS location, going through this program takes extra long, so usually I just type in my own location.  It will also map your search location pretty quickly.

Last section, the yellow page local search feature.  This feature searches using SuperPages.com which is not the best yellow pages website, but then again who searches better than Google?  Search time is so so, not lighting speed even on 3G but what can we do?  You can do the basic tasks through this feature, such as get directions, phone numbers address etc. which makes is pretty basic.  Personally I would still rather search via Google Maps but add the movie features and you have more incentive than Google Maps.

Overall I like this application and I give props to Multiplied Media for making such a user friendly product.  I would recommend this application to any movie buffs and anyone who doesn’t mind another application sitting in their menu.  Poynt is still in beta for the Bold so maybe when it is officially launched it will have some more cool features.

To download Poynt visit m.mypoynt.com on your Bold browser.  This version will work for other Blackberries, however it will not have movie trailer viewing.
