We reported to you weeks ago that Best Buy would be carrying the BlackBerry Bold for a nasty price of $679.99, yesterday we showed you that the Bold is on their website.  Well now news comes from BGR that another electronics store will be carrying it, CompUSA.  The news isn’t that they will be carrying it because I’m sure other retailers may pick it up too, but wanna know how much they expect to get for it?  $799.99!!!  Outrageous I say, who in their right mind would first off, go find their nearest CompUSA store or go to their site?  Secondly, who would pay $799.99 for it when there are bagillions of Best Buys handy with it for $120 less, and AT&T stores that carry will carry it?  You may as well go back in time two months ago, buy a pre-release for like $850 and already have it before CompUSA starts selling it for only $50 cheaper!  That way you would have already had it for 2 months and that extra $50 would have been well worth it.  I am formally protesting CompUSA until they drop the price.

I’m not even going to link you guys to their website, sorry.

P.S. If anyone who will be buying it from CompUSA or who has already ordered it from their, please email me and tell me why.

It makes absolutely no sense to purchase from Compusa at that price when you can buy a no contract ATT phone for $550.00 and then get it unlocked if you need to do so.
  • People often want unlocked phones for many reasons - international travel, convenience, the ‘no contract extension required’ concept - and unlocked phones do cost more than off-the-shelf carrier related phones.

While it may be said that they physical components of the Bold have been estimated at $180, there are millions spent on research and development of the software and hardware for the device as well as marketing, carrier subsidies, etc that affect the resale price of the handset.

The phone is beautiful and actually the favorite of many top executives who wanted it as soon as it came out - before it was available in the US even.

I can assure you there is no outrageous markup and profit in this price. You will even find it selling for more online at other places.

If you would only take a look, you'll see that most of CompUSA's prices are MUCH lower than they were in 2007 and before.

No contract, unlocked phones always have a higher price - and cost - than traditional phones.
