Before the MySpace app was release for BlackBerry, we were all wondering about when this mythical Facebook 1.5 would be released.  Even after the release of MySpace’s fancy app, the new Facebook was no where to be seen.  Well … I’m sorry to say, it is still not available, however BGR did get to preview Facebook 1.5 and it has added some cool new features.

I know you were probably expecting a totally redesigned GUI, well so was I.  Nonetheless it is very improved and when it is released, I’m sure everyone will be pleased.  Here is a run down of the important features:

  • BlackBerry Message integration (not messenger) – This enables your new Facebook alerts to be listed in your message list instead of having to go to the Facebook client every time.  Very cool.
  • BlackBerry Calendar integration – This feature is sweet.  It allows your Facebook events to be automatically synced to your BlackBerry calendar.  I particularly like this because I RSVP for things but never check when they are, now Facebook will do it for me.
  • BlackBerry Contacts integration – This allows for your Facebook friends to be added to your contact list.  It will add phone numbers, work info, pictures, hopefully email and it gives you an option to request a friends phone number if you don’t have it.  You can also choose who you want added to your BlackBerry contacts as well.

*Each of the previous features can be enabled or disabled at the users discretion.

Some other new features are:

  • You can call friends from your friend list
  • You are now able to comment on friends’ status
  • You can change your listed phone numbers
  • When you go to Facebook’s WAP site it will not ask you for a password if you are logged into the app

This all sounds pretty nifty, and the leak means that it is pretty close to launch.  Get ready for some more record breaking downloads.  Maybe there will even be more cool new features.  Stay tuned.
