Tip of the Day #6 - How to delete prior messages/search your messages – Does your message box fill up frequently and slow your phone down? Do you merge your text messages with your emails? I constantly have emails and texts flowing in and after a few weeks, the texts alone are in the thousands. Now my Bold can handle the ridiculous amounts of messages in my inbox, but older devices like the Curves, Pearls, and 8800’s can’t without slowing the phones running speed down. Well this tip is for all you crazy texters or emailers that don’t want your message box filled with 10,000 emails and texts. Yes you can set your preferences to only keep messages for a certain amount of time, but I like to have a little more control than that. Here is what you do:
Now there are a few ways to do this:
Step 1. Go into your Messages, SMS Texts, or email inbox if you keep them separate. You can highlight all your messages by holding Shift and scrolling down to the bottom, but that could take minutes.
Step 2. To speed the deleting process up you can go to the current date or any other date that you wish and press Menu then Delete Prior, press the trackball and it will delete every message prior to that date. To speed that up you can simple just press the Delete key when you are on the selected date.
Now, maybe you only want to delete certain messages. Well you can do that too.
- If you want to search for specific messages, when you are in your message list, press S or Menu and then Search. Once in the search field you will have many options to refine your search.
- You can also view only certain types of messages with a few quick shortcuts: Alt+I for incoming messages, Alt+O for outgoing messages, Alt+S for all SMS messages, and Alt+M for MMS messages.
- *Repeat Steps 1 and 2 do delete messages in these search parameters.
I hope this one is as useful to you as it is to me.
