Tip of the Day #17 - How to load to perform a complete wipe – If you’re like me, I’m constantly “formatting” my phone and performing fresh installs. Anyhow, for all of you people out there that want to give it a try here’s a little step by step action for you:

Warning: If you decide to follow these instructions, you do so at your own risk. If you are not fully aware of what is going on, you could brick your BlackBerry. We are not to be held responsible. Do NOT attempt this on Windows 7 Beta.

Step 1. Backup your BlackBerry device. This includes any applications, notes, calendar, phone book, etc.

Step 2. Make sure you have the latest Desktop Manager installed and your latest OS firmware installed.

Step 3. Download jl_cmder.zip

Step 4. Unzip jl_cmder, and run the install file. It should automatically create a shortcut on your desktop. Although, sometimes it is a little weird and the shortcut doesn’t come up. If it doesn’t, just run c:\ProgramFiles\JL_Cmder\JL_Cmder.cmd

Step 5. If you have a password lock on your BlackBerry, enter it, otherwise hit n. Then press 4, y to continue, and type blackberry and press enter to begin wiping. It should only take a minute.

Step 6. Once that is complete, it will hourglass for a moment.. and then you should be stuck with a little 507 Error. This means there is no OS loaded and you have a completely wiped BlackBerry.  From this point, fire-up your Desktop Manager and load any OS version you’d like (assuming you delete the vendor.xml file in my previous tip).

If you have any questions or comments, I can field them below in the comment sections.
