5 Reasons Why BlackBerry is Still Better than the iPhone

So you just purchased that new iPhone 3GS and you’re thinking you have the best phone on the planet right? Well you might want to rethink that because the Blackberry smartphone still reigns supreme. Sure on the outside with all its flash and looks the iPhone seems like it’s the best thing ever but when it comes to mobile phones it’s what’s on the inside that counts.
1. Security
Let’s face it the Blackberry is the most secure device out there. With its built in firewall and many security features the iPhone just can’t compete in this department. I don’t think I even have to mention the recent iPhone hacker scare. It had thousands of iPhone users ready to drop like flies and move over to the other side. Even though the iPhone works seamlessly with Microsoft Exchange it still has security vulnerabilities that keep companies from switching to them.
Security is never an issue with the BlackBerry which even has the capability for remote-controlled lobotomy if your phone is stolen. Furthermore Obama uses a BlackBerry need I say more?
2. Typing
If you’re like me and have larger than normal fingers than you already know how much of pain it is typing on the iPhone. Now I will admit Apple has made it a little easier with the addition of landscape mode but some programs still make you type in portrait view. I’m sorry but the one hand typing thing just does not work. Even when I think I am getting better I still hit too many wrong keys. In the other corner RIM has perfected the QWERTY keyboard to fit and feel perfect on most of their phones.
3. Carriers
AT&T, enough said.
4. MMS
First things first I will admit this is not really a fault of the iPhone it’s mostly AT&T but still it’s a big problem. I’ve always been baffled as to why the iPhone didn’t have MMS from day one. Some will use the excuse of just sending an email instead. The main problem with that is not everybody has a smartphone these days and if they want to easily send a picture they should be able to.
5. Email
Arguably one of the greatest features of any smartphone is push email and BlackBerry is no doubt the king. The ability to instantly get an email from any of your accounts really is one of the best things about a BlackBerry. Yes the iPhone does have legitimate email software but it is not instantaneous and can be a pain logging into your account to see new emails. This also ties into all notifications because the LED light on the BlackBerry may seem like nothing big but its a huge feature. Any type of notification from a text message to a Facebook message triggers that little red light of joy. It really signifies what the BlackBerry is all about, simple yet extremely effective.

5 reasons why Blackberry IS NOT better than an iPhone:
1. Browser. Enough said.
2. App store. Again, enough said.
3. Multimedia. iTunes versus BBerry media player? No contest.
4. Screen estate. Storm does not have a ‘proper’ keyboard so dont even go there.
5. Email. Multiple accounts, easily configured without requiring a mandatory BES or BIS account.
Also… iPhone can now do MMS. Its pointless saying it should have done it outta the box. It does it now so get over it.
Yes you cant beat a ‘proper’ keyboard but I can type one handed on my iPhone almost as quickly as i can two fingered on my Curve.
rofl! froobra is the perfect example of an apple fanboy….relax, it’s not that serious LOL! looking at the track record, blackberry is deep in the game plus they have good quality hardware which alot (not all) apple products lack. Also there will always be vulnerabilities in every device but why does it seem like apple always has the major vulns and never takes care of them quick enough? but ONE thing you have right is the application store…no company is touchin that right now, cant wait to see microsofts application store seeing as how you dont have to pay for the SDK
I, personally, dont like BB or Apple….so i settle for windows mobile, which has a slew of issues i do not agree with but the device makes it worthwhile (samsung omnia…soon to be omnia2)
Foobra…If you prefer Apple that’s perfectly fine; we like what we like. However, one of your points is completely false. You DO NOT need to have a BES or BIS account to set up 11, count them “11 email” accounts on ANY Blackberry device. I have gmail, yahoo, my carrier’s email, and my company email on my Blackberry. There is no easier email setup than a Blackberry’s. Yahoo and Gmail for example only requires your user name and password and poof, that’s a wrap! Sorry, but your point is completely invalid.
These are all great points. It is important to understand that this is something I did for fun and doesn’t need to be taken real seriously. I believe both phones have their strengths but as you should know I am a little biased
I totally agree with #2 and #3. I like typing entire emails on my Blackberry with actual words (not 2, 4, r, u,y, etc) and I’ve tried it with the iPhone and just couldn’t get the hang of it. It takes me twice as long to get anything out.
With that said, if Verizon gets on board with the iPhone, I may just switch over.
MobileMe does most of the things you said the iPhone couldn’t do. E.g Remote wipe, instant push notification from email and apps, but I am in the UK. I will agree the general feeling is AT&T do suck.
I agree they have made some advancements with MobileMe but the problem is you have to pay a fee and its not quite instantaneous.
Keep in mind there are multiple browers to choose from, like Opera Mini.
I have a Mac and I love it. And I also have a Blackberry Tour and I also love it. I don’t want an iPhone. In addition to the 5 reasons above, the instantaneous sync of BIS and BES is unmatched anywhere. I’m on a BES/Microsoft Exchange thru work. It’s amazing how when i put a cal appointment on my BB, it shows up on my computer in under 3 seconds–literally. It’s often within 1 second. That just doesn’t happen with MobileMe. And, yes, I have a mobileme account with my Mac to sync my info there, but it’s often slow or causes sync errors. That never happens with BES or BIS.
And the keyboard on the Tour? Incredible. I actually gave up my Storm (hated it!) to go back to a real keyboard so I could answer my 75+ emails a day for work.
froobra your points is right i don’t agree 5 reasons why blackberry is still better than iphone. this is stupid false i love iphone 3gs is the best phone ever ever
