5 BlackBerry Apps Every Social Media Junkie Should Have

When it comes to social media you want to have all the latest and greatest applications at your disposal.  Owning a smartphone plays a major role in social media because it keeps you updated no matter where you are.  The BlackBerry can be just what you need and if you’re a social media junkie these are the five apps that should be on your phone.

Viigo

Viigo is well known for its ability to grab RSS feeds from almost any site on the planet and drop them into your BlackBerry.  When you want the news Viigo supplies it to you in one neat and handy app.  As Viigo has expanded it has added a variety of nice features.  For instance if you’re browsing through your feeds and you see a story you want to share on Twitter you can easily do that.  Viigo has a built in option to submit any article to Facebook, Twitter and Del.icio.us all from within the app.  This means you can share everything you find easily and move on to more stories.  In the future it would be nice if they added a Digg option for the ultimate social media experience.

AOL Instant Messenger is used by many social media fans because it’s another great way to keep in touch.  The AIM BlackBerry app is nothing spectacular but it does everything you need it to do.  You can perform all the basic AIM duties and tell your friends about the new articles you just submitted.  Another good thing about the app is it can stay active when you exit so you are still able to get your notifications, which means you won’t miss a beat.

Bolt

Believe it or not the Bolt browser is an essential part of the social media experience.  See Bolt can handle all those feature rich websites that other mobile browsers have trouble with.  We all love visiting and contributing to Digg but sadly their mobile website doesn’t give us many options.  This is not the case with Bolt because you can do everything on BlackBerry that you can do on your PC.  This doesn’t just relate to Digg, all the major social sharing sites like Reddit, StumbleUpon and Mixx are much easier to use on Bolt.

Google Mobile

Google Mobile made the list because of all the apps that are built into it.  Google Reader is no Viigo but it’s another way to get the latest news feeds from your BlackBerry.  The built in Google News feature is a nice addition and it’s a good way to see all the top news stories.  The good thing about Google News mobile is that it will tell you when the site was updated so you know whether the story is new or not.  Of course Google mobile also comes packed with Gmail, which still needs some work but definitely comes in handy.  The search option is the most powerful and you can easily get the results you want using traditional search or even a voice search option.

SocialScope

Somewhat new to the game SocialScope is in all in one social media app.  It allows you to view updates from Twitter and Facebook in one continuous stream.   SocialScope also has Flickr integration and although it is still in private beta it is already very much polished.  SocialScope is the best and fastest way to see breaking articles from both Facebook and Twitter and easily share your links with millions of people across both networks.

you bring up a good point about using Bolt that way. I have always struggle with these type of sites using the generic browser.
