How Much of a Beating Can a BlackBerry Take?

blackberry bold 01 300x223 How Much of a Beating Can a BlackBerry Take?On a night out along Bourbon St, New Orleans my BlackBerry Bold took a beating.  I was taking a photo in a pretty rowdy bar with the Bold raised above my head when someone accidentally whacked it out of my hand and it fell six feet to the ground with solid force.

Naturally I feared the worst, after all I wouldn’t want to be thrown to the floor from six feet..so how would my Bold hold up?

I found three pieces scattered around the dancing feet; body, backplate and battery.  All components accounted for; that’s a good start.  Hesitantly looking over the body, the screen appeared to be in one piece…phew…no spider webbing in evidence.  In went the battery and, hey presto, up came the red light followed by the white boot-up screen.  A few (long) moments later it was at the boot-up screen.  My Bold had survived, huzzah!

So have you seen a BlackBerry take more punishment and survive?

Lets not forget that water is not conductive and will not cause any problems itself. Depending on the purity of the water. You can run a cell phone submersed in distilled water indefinitely. Toilet water and rain is another story altogether.

My parents treat their blackberry's lousy. They drop them all the time, toss them to people to use, etc. They're totally beat up, scratched, cracked, dented, etc. But they still work...
  • A friend just told me his Curve 8300 fell seven stories, broke into seven pieces and then proceeded to make and take calls when reassembled! Screen was a bit sad tho...bottom half pretty much dead, so don't try this one at home :)
  • Lets not forget about this guy who put his blackberry underwater for 2 minutes and it still survived http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIrU2B9Z2PU

I've seen a bb storm get ran over in a parking lot on accident and it still works with a shattered screen.
