Still No BlackBerry Storm 2 Announcement from Verizon

Last week was filled with BlackBerry Storm 2 announcements and reviews yet one thing was missing.  We saw Vodafone publish an official Storm 2 press release and they even let customers pre-order the phone.  RIM also made it official by going live with their Storm 2 website.  Yet through all this excitement one very important carrier stayed silent.

As the reviews started to pile up during the middle of last week we thought it was only a matter of time before we heard from Verizon.  Yet Friday came and went and we didn’t hear anything.  It was a little strange because usually when RIM makes it official the carriers do the same.  Now even though Vodafone made their announcement you have to remember we are talking about two different models.  Remember Vodafone will be getting the 9520 while Verizon will have the 9550.  So could it be that the 9550 is not ready for primetime yet?

This is what CrackBerry seems to think and they are suggesting that the BlackBerry Storm 2 (9550) hasn’t cleared the technical acceptance process.  This is a solid theory and don’t forget what happened when Verizon launched the BlackBerry Tour 9630.  Many believe the Tour might have been rushed out too soon and that is why the early models had issues.  It could just be that Verizon wants to make sure everything on the device is up to par before they make an announcement.  This is arguably their biggest phone launch of the year and they want to get it right, can you blame them?

Early rumors indicated that we would see Verizon release the Storm 2 on October 21st which is this Wednesday.  While we can’t quite rule this out yet it’s hard to believe we will see it then.  It is looking more like we might have to wait till November 7th before we can get our hands on a Verizon BlackBerry Storm 2.  There are rumors that a new Verizon ad campaign will start this week and it will promote the Storm 2 among many other new phones.  Only time will tell if this rumor is true but if it is then you can expect a release date to be included with it.
