Yesterday Google Maps for BlackBerry was updated to version 3.2.0 and with it came the new “layers” feature. Layers integration was previously released for Windows Mobile devices and now BlackBerry users can enjoy it.
With this new feature Google Maps now has the ability to link to your Google account so you can create several different maps and save them for later use. Layers can be switched on and off from your menu screen and each layer gives you the ability to get specific information about your location.
For instance if you were doing some site seeing in San Francisco and wanted to find out some more information about Alcatraz just pull up the Wikapedia layer. There is also a Google Latitude option so you can see where you friends are located and even a layer for local transit lines. It’s just another quality enhancement to one of the best BlackBerry apps out there.
