Theme Review: BerryHero BlackBerry Theme

It seems that the latest trend in BlackBerry themes is cloning the new HTC Hero and porting it over to BlackBerry devices.  Many people rave about the Hero’s design and were anxious to see how it looked on a BlackBerry.  TemasBlackBerry is the latest to develop this type of theme and for the most part they did an exceptional job with it.

The unique design and layout of any kind of Hero theme is really what makes them so special.  With the BerryHero you get that unique Hero like design along with some added extras.  The first thing you’ll notice about this theme is how many icons appear on the homescreen.  Just about all your essentials can be accessed without even going into your menu.  In total there are 6 fixed mini icons and 8 customizable icons on your homescreen.  This allows you to easily access your camera, sounds, options and calculator on top of the extra icons you decide to put there.

Another feature that makes the Hero styled themes so popular is the large clock in the middle that includes your date and message count.  The BerryHero’s clock looks almost exactly like the actual Hero but it doesn’t quite function the same.  In the actual Hero, the clock operates like a flipclock but in this version it is digital.  Really it’s just a small issue in an otherwise flawless theme.

My favorite part of this theme is the Hero icon set.  I am a big fan of the HTC Hero’s icons and they all have been successfully transferred over to this BlackBerry theme.  TemasBlackBerry also added their own special little icons that are present in the bottom of the homescreen.  When you open up the menu in BerryHero you will get a full view of the Hero’s background.  Unfortunately I do not recommend changing the wallpaper because it will throw off the entire theme. The menu screens are also well done and show the signature Android green highlight when you hover over each item.

Overall I am very impressed with this latest HTC Hero BlackBerry clone.  For the most part it closely resembles the actual Hero and I love the extra icons I can use on the homescreen.  The only drawbacks are the lack of customization and the clock which is really not a huge deal.  I can’t get enough of these HTC Hero BlackBerry themes and they keep getting better and better.
