Review: BlackBerry HS-500 Bluetooth Headset

I am big fan of driving safely and I hate talking on my BlackBerry when I am on the road without some kind of hands-free device. Now headphones that act as hand-free devices don’t really do it for me. I am big on Bluetooth headsets but I could never find one that fits my needs. I am looking for a headset that feels comfortable in my ear, something that lets me clearly hear the person I am talking to and something that lets the person I talk to hear me loud and clear. I have owned two different Bluetooth headsets and neither of them do all three things.

The other day the kind folks at BlackBerry sent me a free package that contained the new Blackberry HS-500 Bluetooth headset. I was real excited to see what BlackBerry had to offer in the world of Bluetooth devices and boy do they have a lot to offer.

Comfort

The HS-500 headset is a small headset but it is also very comfortable. BlackBerry includes a bunch of different sized connectors that you easily add and remove.  They also provide different angles to fit either side of your head.  The headset is so comfortable that after using it for a few hours I forgot that I even had it on.  It is small enough that it will fit in your pocket but big enough so that it won’t get lost.

Connectivity

With the HS-500 headset you can easily pair to your BlackBerry device.  You probably already know that some other Bluetooth devices are very complicated to pair and you don’t want to go looking for the instruction guide to figure out how to do it. The HS-500 is excels in call quality which is huge factor for Bluetooth headsets.  I have been making a lot of phone calls to people with this device and I have asked every single person about how I sound on their end and they have all rave about the sound quality.

Cons

My only complaint with the HS-500 headset is that the package didn’t include a home charger, it came with only a car charger. I don’t spend a lot of time driving in my car so I would be better off with a home charger.  I also had some small issues with the power button sensitivity but nothing that I couldn’t deal with.

Conclusion

Overall the BlackBerry HS-500 Bluetooth headset is a great addition to the Bluetooth family.  I recommend it to everyone that is looking for a high quality Bluetooth device.  It certainly deserves to be mentioned with other top of the line wireless headsets.  BlackBerry has made another amazing product that I plan on using exclusively with my BlackBerry from now on.
