Let’s be honest here, we all know that BlackBerry gaming still has a ways to go before it can compete with the big dogs. Sure there are a handful of BlackBerry games that are both addicting and fun but we want more than that. We may get our wish as RIM announced that future OS versions will support OpenGL ES for 3D graphics acceleration.
This is huge news not only the future of the BlackBerry platform but also for the development of BlackBerry gaming. We may finally see games that are on par with all the other smartphones. EA games were present at the 2009 BlackBerry Developer Conference and they showed off the upcoming Need for Speed: Shift title using the power of OpenGL ES. IntoMobile decided to make this hands-on video that gives us a behind the scenes look at the new Need for Speed game running on the BlackBerry Storm 2. It is important to note that the game is still in the early development stages but you can already see a major improvement.
