Headphones are an important part of any BlackBerry because they significantly enhance the sound quality of the device. Today most BlackBerry phones come with a generic set of headphones that are satisfying but there are better options available. One of those options is the premium collection of headphones made by Ifrogz. If you’re looking for high quality headphones for either the BlackBerry or iPhone Ifrogz is the answer. They have supplied me with a free pair of their new top of the line Earpollution Timbre headphones.
The Timbre series specializes in looks and delivers on sound quality. It has two special wooden chambers on each earpiece that help set off the style but at the same time enhance the sound. In the musical world “timbre” means sound quality or tone and many refer to it as important fundamental aspect in music. After experiencing sound through these headphones I can see just why they decided to call these by that name.
The Timbre series comes in two versions, with a mic and without one. There is a $10 difference in price between the two. In this case Ifrogz sent me the pair with a mic which is good because I like to use them as a Bluetooth alternative. This particular version comes with three different earfit pieces so there’s a perfect fit for everybody. If you get the version with a mic you can easily answer calls because the mic is clickable. Let’s take a look at the specs:
- Driver unit: 10 mm
- Impedance: 16 ohms
- Sensitivity: 103 dB
- Frequency Response: 20 Hz to 20Khz
- Cord Length: 1.1 m
- Plug: 3.5 mm
When I review any type of headphones or Bluetooth headsets I like to test them on a variety of platforms. In this case I used the Timbre with two of my favorite BlackBerry radio apps, Pandora and Slacker. I also tested them out during phone calls and while watching videos. On all platforms the sound quality was very impressive. When I was listening to music the sound of the clean bass was pleasing. Some headphones supply too much bass and some too little, the iFrogz Timbre fall somewhere in the middle.
Testing how well headphones handle phone calls is important part of the process, after all you want to be able to take a call while listening to your music. With the Timbre headphones it was easy for me to connect to a call while I was listening to Slacker radio. The call came in and I just clicked the mic and I was connected. After the call was over it immediately transferred me back to the song with no interruptions. Overall the call quality was decent but I had some slight muffles in my voice according to my caller. The key here is it was slight and nothing that would ruin a conversation.
Overall I found very little wrong with the Ifrogz Timbre headphones. It did bother me a little when I had to adjust the plug slightly to get connected to my BlackBerry but after that I didn’t have to do it again. The sound quality is top of the line and I especially enjoyed listening to music with them. The comfort and fit are near perfect and I liked that they offered different sized earbuds for all types of ears. With the iFrogz Timbre headphones you’ll enjoy taking your BlackBerry with you on the go because you can always block out the world around you. They aren’t the best headphones I’ve used but they are close to it.
Prices: $39.99 without mic, $49.99 with mic
