Cortado Flight Mode-The Missing BlackBerry Feature

cortadoBlackBerry phones have many different features and capabilities but there is one important feature that continues to be left out.  Airplane mode is found in almost every single mobile phone or smartphone out there yet for some reason is not present on the BlackBerry.  Cortado decided to change that as they have released their new application called Cortado Flight Mode.  Before this app was released BlackBerry users had the option to turn off all wireless connections via the menu.  This was handy to have but it was a pain because it wasn’t easy to convince the flight attendant that all connections were indeed off.

Finally BlackBerry users will be able to easily switch their phones to flight mode with just one click.  Cortado Flight Mode will shutdown all wireless connections but before it does it will download all incomplete message texts so you can effectively work while in the air.  Once you’re at a safe altitude you can turn your BlackBerry back on and all wireless connections will remain deactivated while you read your downloaded e-mails.

“This tool brings an often missed airplane mode feature to BlackBerry smartphones for frequent flyers. It is easy to operate and makes flying time more productive,” says Thorsten Hesse, Director of Sales for Cortado and Member of the Management Board. “At some point in time, all business travelers have wanted to read their e-mails on the plane but were prevented from doing so because they were not completely downloaded. This is no longer an issue.”

Just installed it a couple of days ago on my Storm 2.

Justin is right. This app is way better than just“Turn All Connections Off” on the BlackBerry. All you need is one click!

It lets me read my (complete) emails of the day while on the plane and also write my replies!

    Thank you Justin!
  • I agree with you David, it is fairly easy to click on my network icon on my storm2 but this app would still be handy

Yeah, okay, there isn't anything specifically CALLED OUT as "Airplane Mode", but it's trivial to turn wireless connections on and off, ESPECIALLY now that wireless connections status icon is a clickable entry on the Home Screen in OS 5.
  • I see what you mean David but it's a pretty basic feature and can't really compare to this app.
