Optiemus Will Release Two New BlackBerry Devices this Quarter

We have been seeing some photos leak of two BlackBerry devices, code-named Ghost, and Ghost Pro, rumored to be launching in India by Optiemus. However, other than the two leaked photos, we really haven’t seen any other details.

Hardip Singh, Executive Director at Optiemus was interviewed recently by Digit and gave some insight on when we might be seeing these two rumored devices.

“We are going to come out with a whole range of models starting with two this quarter. And during the year, we have more models planned out in the coming quarters. We have a strong pipeline of models which we will be bringing in, and they will be at various price points.”

So, it looks like Optiemus has two devices ready to be released this quarter, which I would assume would be the BlackBerry Ghost and Ghost Pro devices we have seen make briefly.  The other interesting takeaway from that quote is that they apparently have more models planned for upcoming Quarters.   I would assume that Optiemus will release a Keyboard BlackBerry device of their own so I am sure that is a device we will see in upcoming quarters.  It will be interesting, however, to see what or how many other devices we will see from Optiemus.

Many have also been wondering about the Specs and pricing of the rumored BlackBerry devices in India and Singh gave some insight to that as well during the interview.

“You cannot analyse a BlackBerry device based solely on the specs. We feel that the specs that we are putting into the phone are optimum for it. You cannot single out a specific hardware choice and state the device is overpriced. It doesn’t work like that. BlackBerry, being BlackBerry will always fetch a premium.”

This tells me that Optiemus is not looking to put high-end specs in their upcoming devices.  The fact that the devices are BlackBerry devices already gives the devices a Premium feel. With devices like the BlackBerry KEYone and the BlackBerry Motion, we have seen that you don’t necessarily need the top of the line specs to have a great phone. Just from this quote from Singh I can see Optiemus choosing to use high-end hardware for certain components and low-end for others.

It will be interesting to see what Optiemus brings to the table for BlackBerry fans in India. Another thing we will have to keep an eye on is if Optiemus will bring any of these rumored devices to other parts of the world. I am thinking that it is very unlikely for us to see the upcoming Optiemus devices head to other regions but, we won’t officially rule it out yet.
