Rumor: BlackBerry ‘Athena’ to be Called the BlackBerry KEY2 According to Head of Sales for BlackBerry Mobile in China

When it comes to the follow up device for the BlackBerry KEYone, we haven’t really seen too much information about it.  We know that there is a code name Athena floating around the rumor mill, but other than that we do not really have much information.  Well, thanks to Reddit user NightFuryToni we might now know what the device will be officially called.

It seems like the Head of Sales for BlackBerry Mobile in China has been spotted with the name KEY2 on his Weibo profile.  While this has not been officially confirmed with anyone from BlackBerry Mobile, there is a pretty good chance that this could be the name for the follow up device to the BlackBerry KEYone. We have all speculated ever since the birth of the KEYone, that the follow up device to the KEYone would probably be called KEYtwo, but it looks like BlackBerry Mobile is replacing the word two, with the number 2.  This would tell consumers that it is the 2nd device in the series and is pretty clever in my opinion.

We will reach out to BlackBerry Mobile to get some kind of clarification. Stay tuned!
